Blue Badge Fraud Investigation Update

Decision Maker: Environment, Transport & Sustainability Committee

Decision status: Recommendations Approved

Is Key decision?: No

Is subject to call in?: No

Purpose:

This report provides an update on Blue Badge investigation following a successful joint bid with East Sussex County Council.
That accounted for 2 officers (one for B&H and an officer at ESCC) dealing with Blue badge misuse investigation and also police support.
This allowed projects such as Operation Bluebird where a joint collaboration ensured blue badge misuse was investigated and acted on in a proportionate way, protecting disabled concessions and parking revenue, in the case of B&H this has initially centred on the Hove area.
The report also outlines possible ways forward to develop the service following the successes and national recognition this has received.

Decision:

1)           That the Committee notes the update provided.

2)           That the Committee notes the possible ways forward to develop the service outlined in para 6.2 and requests the Acting Executive Director to investigate the possibilities and resources available during the current service redesign in Transport.
