28.1    Members discussed the 2009-11 work programme.

28.2    Cllr Marsh asked that her chagrin with regard to the postponement of the Select Committee on Alcohol Related Hospital Admissions be recorded.

28.3    Members agreed that an item: Brighton & Hove LINk 6 monthly update be added to the agenda for the 08 December committee meeting.

14.1    Members discussed the committee work programme.

14.2    It was agreed that two additional items should be considered for the work programme:

(i) implications of the Health White Paper. Members decided that this should be offered to all Councillors rather than just HOSC members, and it was therefore determined that officers should seek to set up a members’ seminar with support from NHS Brighton & Hove.

(ii) Annual Report of the Director of Public Health. Members agreed to invite Dr Scanlon to the next (29 September 2010) committee meeting to talk to his recently published annual report.

25.1    Members discussed possible items for the HOSC work programme.

25.2    It was agreed that officers should seek to collate a number of suggested topics under themes, and that the resultant, concise, work programme should be presented to members at their next meeting.

Update on the 2009-2010 Work Programme (to follow).

11.1    The Chairman informed members that he intended to schedule an item on the 30.09.09 committee agenda which would enable the HOSC to agree a 2009-2010 work programme.

11.2    HOSC members would be asked to contribute their work programme ideas in advance of the September meeting, as would all other Brighton & Hove Councillors, partner organisations (e.g. the Brighton & Hove Local Involvement Network and the Older People’s Council) and local NHS trusts.

93.1    Members discussed the committee work programme, deciding to invite the Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust to contribute to the May HOSC meeting, to invite South Downs Health NHS Trust to contribute in advance of their integration with West Sussex community services, and to postpone the planned item on non-NHS providers at work in the local health economy until the July committee meeting.

Update on the 2009-2010 Work Programme (copy attached).

80.1    Members discussed the committee work plan, noting that items on the Brighton & Hove Local Involvement Network, Section 75 Agreements and Organisations in the Local Health Economy had been postponed until later meetings.

80.2    Items arising from this meeting which will need to be added to the work programme are: dental services review and report on chiropody services.

80.3    Amanda Fadero, Deputy Chief Executive, NHS Brighton & Hove, suggested that the Committee might wish to receive an update on the Community Care strategy alongside the scheduled report on plans to develop tertiary care at the Royal Sussex Hospital site (the ‘3 Ts’ initiative).
