Agenda item - Next Task & Finish Group

14.1 The chair gave the following statement: Our final item tonight is seeking the committee’s approval for the next Task & Finish Group, which I am proposing to be on customer services. Following on from our discussion at the March committee meeting scrutiny officers and I held meetings with relevant council officers. I have concluded that there is more space to look at the council’s customer service offer and provide useful recommendations that could possibly result in meaningful change.

Although young people’s mental health, which was the other option I was considering, is incredibly important and an area that I know we all want to see improvements being made in. I do not think at this time that a task & finish group could bring up any new evidence or put forward any recommendations that are not already being considered. We are waiting for the finalisation of a number of initiatives and reports from government that will shape the direction that the country as a whole and Brighton and Hove as a city start to move in. Once the landscape is clearer then might be the time to reconsider a topic within this area for a task and finish group.

Included in the report are a scoping report and draft terms of reference for the task & finish group. The scoping report is a guideline to get the group started. The first meeting of the group will be a scoping meeting where we can discuss witnesses and how we want to proceed.

14.2 RESOLVED People Overview & Scrutiny agrees to establish a Task & Finish Group on Customer Services with the terms of reference set out in Appendix 1.
