16.1    The Chair gave the following communications

I’d like to thanks everyone for attending this special meeting. I’ve called a special meeting as I felt it was important that People O&S members had the chance to comment on plans for day services for people with learning disabilities in advance of the Cabinet decision which will take place on 17 September.

The draft Cabinet report and its appendices are included in today’s meeting papers. Cabinet papers will be published on 09 September so there is time between this meeting and Cabinet to make changes to the report should Cabinet choose to do so in response to scrutiny suggestions.

We’re joined today by Cllr Mitchie Alexander, Cabinet Member for Communities, Equalities, Public Health and Adult Social Care, and also by Steve Hook, the council’s Director of Adult Social Care. In a moment I will ask Mitchie and Steve to present on their plans for the future of day services for people with learning disabilities.

Before we start, I want to make a point about today’s meeting. As with all Council meetings, local residents are welcome to attend and observe the meeting. However, this is not an opportunity for people to directly engage, and I do ask that members of the public don’t interrupt the meeting. There will be opportunities for people to ask questions or present deputations or petitions to the 17 September Cabinet meeting.
