Chairs Communications
Minutes:
56.1 The Chair provided the following communication:
“I am pleased to be able to update committee members on some positive news and progress on the two coastal defence strategies that the council is involved in. The strategies provide a 100-year plan for improvements to areas of the city's coastal defences, and their ongoing maintenance, taking account of current climate change predictions.
The Brighton Marina to River Adur coast defence strategy, which was approved by this committee in July this year, has now been approved in principle by the Environment Agency. The costs of delivering the strategy will be met jointly by the Agency, Shoreham Port Authority and the council, and works are planned to start in 2020/21.
The Brighton Marina to Newhaven coastal study will be starting this month. It will include a focus on the stability of the cliffs in this area, which is our primary concern. The study is expected to be completed by April 2015 and the results will inform the development of the longer-term strategy”.
