Agenda item - Appointments for 2020/21

The Mayor will move the following appointments for 2020/21:

(a)       To approve the appointment of the Deputy Leader of the Council, Councillor Allcock;

(b)       To approve the appointment of the Leader of the Official Opposition;

Councillor Mac Cafferty;

(c)       To note the appointments of the following positions as agreed by the respective Groups represented on the Council:

(i)        Leader of the Labour Group

Councillor Platts;

(ii)       Deputy Leaders of the Labour Group

Councillor Allcock and,

Councillor Yates (Finance);

(iii)      Convenor of the Green Group

Councillor Mac Cafferty;

(iv)     Deputy Convenors of the Green Group

Councillor Clare (External) and,

Councillor Shanks (Internal);

(v)      Leader of the Conservative Group

Councillor Bell;

(vi)     Deputy Leaders of the Conservative Group

Councillor Mears and,

Councillor Wares.

8.1            The Mayor moved that for the municipal year 2020/21 the following appointments be agreed:

(i)        Deputy Leader of the Council, Councillor John Allcock; and

(ii)       Leader of the Official Opposition, Councillor Phelim Mac Cafferty.

8.2            The Mayor also moved that for the municipal year 2020/21 the following appointments to the positions as agreed by the various Groups represented on the Council be noted:

(i)        Leader of the Labour Group -

          Councillor Nancy Platts;

(ii)       Deputy Leaders of the Labour Group -

          Councillors John Allcock and Daniel Yates (Finance)l;

(iii)      Convenor of the Green Group –

          Councillor Phelim Mac Cafferty;

(iv)      Deputy Convenors of the Green Group –

          Councillors Hannah Clare and Sue Shanks

(v)       Leader of the Conservative Group -

          Councillor Steve Bell;

(vi)      Deputy Leaders of the Conservative Group –

          Councillors Robert Nemeth and Lee Wares;

8.3            Councillor Platts confirmed that the Labour Group were in favour of the motion and the Labour Group confirmed that they were voting for the motion.

8.4            Councillor Mac Cafferty confirmed that the Green Group were in favour of the motion and the Green Group confirmed that they were voting for the motion.

8.5            Councillor Bell confirmed that the Conservative Group were in favour on the motion and the Conservative Group confirmed that they were voting for the motion.

8.6            Councillor Fishleigh confirmed that she was voting against the motion.

8.7            Councillor Janio confirmed that he was voting for the motion.

8.8            The Mayor confirmed that the motion had been carried.

8.9            RESOLVED:

(1)      That the appointments of Councillors John Allcock and Phelim Mac Cafferty as Deputy Leader of the Council and Leader of the Official Opposition respectively, for the 2020/21 municipal year be agreed; and

(2)      That the appoints listed above by the Groups represented on the Council be noted.
