HIV Awareness Week
38.1 The Chair, Councillor Shanks explained that(1-8 Feb) was HIV Awareness Week and that it provided an opportunity to raise awareness of how important and easy it was for anyone at risk to get an HIV test. The number of people diagnosed with HIV was falling, but there was still work to do. 1 in 16 people with HIV were unaware they had it and spent an average of three to five years not knowing, increasing the risk of passing HIV on to sexual partners. It was free to order a self-testing kit from freetesting.hiv and only took five minutes to take a finger prick test and send if off.
