Agenda item - Election of the Mayor of the Council for the Municipal Year 2009/2010.

3.1           The Mayor invited nominations for the position of Mayor of Brighton & Hove City Council for the municipal year 2009/2010.

3.2           Councillor Ann Norman was proposed by Councillor Geoffrey Theobald and seconded by Councillor Mears.

3.3           Councillors Mitchell, Randall and Elgood supported the nomination of Councillor Ann Norman.

3.4           The Mayor declared that, there being no other nominations, Councillor Ann Norman be duly elected Mayor of Brighton & Hove City Council for the forthcoming municipal year. 

3.5           The motion was agreed.

3.6           The Mayor then adjourned the meeting at 4.50pm in order for Councillor Ann Norman as the incoming Mayor to be robbed and to take the Chair for the meeting.

3.7           Councillor Ann Norman reconvened the meeting at 5.10pm and then made and signed the Declaration of Acceptance of Office.

3.8           The Mayor then thanked the Council for her appointment and called on Councillor Brown.

3.9           Councillor Brown moved a vote of thanks to Councillor Peltzer Dunn as the retiring Mayor for his services during his term of office.

3.10       Councillor Mears formally seconded the motion and this was supported by Councillors Mitchell, Randall and Elgood.

3.11       The Mayor put the motion to the vote.

3.12       The motion was carried.

3.13       The Mayor presented Councillor Peltzer Dunn and Mrs Peltzer Dunn with commemorative badges in recognition of their year of office.

3.14       Councillor Peltzer Dunn thanked the Council.
