Free Bus Passes for Brighton Residents Over 60
Living in the vibrant city of Brighton, there are many under 66 years old longing to frequently travel to the town centre. Participating in community-driven activities not only enriches their social life but greatly enhances their overall wellbeing. However, the cost of bus fares presents a barrier.
Brighton has a thriving senior community with many individuals who desire to stay active, engaged, and connected with the city.
Offering free bus passes to residents over 60 could dramatically improve the lives of so many.
With free travel, older residents would have unrestricted access to essential amenities, social gatherings, healthcare facilities, and leisure activities, increasing inclusivity and community participation.
This initiative aligns with Brighton's commitment to sustainable travel. Encouraging more citizens to use public transport reduces car reliance, easing traffic congestion and decreasing carbon emissions, benefitting the environment.
The UK government has provided free bus passes to seniors in various regions like Scotland, Wales and London. Brighton and Hove should leverage such policies to benefit its senior residents, as well. Implementing this change would demonstrate our city's dedication to its elderly population, fostering a supportive, healthy community. We respectfully call on the Council to act swiftly to make this a reality.
