Bampfield Street & Hurst Crescent Controlled Parking Zone
This petition seeks the introduction of a Controlled Parking Zone (CPZ) for Bampfield Street and Hurst Crescent in South Portslade to ensure that local residents are able to park near, or outside, their homes. At present, these streets suffer from chronic over-parking by vehicles that do not belong to local residents. This includes commuters who park for free and travel onwards into Brighton, tradespeople using the area as long-term parking, and individuals owning multiple vehicles.
As a result, residents regularly struggle to find available parking, even when returning home after work or essential trips. This situation disproportionately affects households with a single vehicle, elderly residents and families with young children, for whom parking at a distance from their home can be particularly challenging.
The absence of parking controls has created ongoing congestion and frustration within the community and undermines residents’ reasonable expectation to access parking in their own street. Introducing a CPZ and residents’ parking permits would prioritise parking for those who live in the area, reduce non-resident parking, improve safety and accessibility, and significantly enhance quality of life for local residents.
