Reopen King's Road paddling pool this summer

We the undersigned petition Brighton & Hove Council to Reopen King's Road paddling pool this summer, and no later than June 2025. King's Road paddling pool is a very popular and importantly free attraction for local residents and visitors to take their children to in the summer months. Not opening the pool will have an impact on the thousands of families who visit during the months of opening. It's our view this closure will have a high level of impact on those communities within the indices of deprivation, who might not be able to afford to pay to use alternative facilities. The nearest free pools are a kilometre or more additional travel time. This may result in additional costs for already struggling families with the pools not being in the central Brighton Seafront Area. We would also ask BHCC to review options to have an expert review the pool maintenance strategy and procedures, to mitigate further closures, given the high use over opening periods.

King's Road paddling pool was only resurfaced in 2024 for a second time, after the first surface failed prematurely.
Having the pool not open on time again for a second year will have a high impact on IMD Communities and those families already struggling with the increasing cost of living.
Improvement work to the A259 should not impact the operating of the pool, which has successfully remained open during previous works. Any damage caused by these works should be born by the contractor responsible and factored into the work.
The Council has been forced to absorb Brighton i360 Loan Costs this year after it fell into Administration. We would ask the Council to think of creative ways to solve this problem, including looking at potential sponsorship opportunities, given the prime location the pool is sighted on to fund costs.
