1. The current location is within 15 metres of people eating in the licensed beer garden of The Ruby (Public House).

Council response

Thank you for your petition.

There are many recycling points across the city, providing additional recycling capacity for residents to dispose of excess dry mixed recycling, such as cardboard, as well as glass.
These recycling points also provide an opportunity for residents to recycle materials that are not collected in their kerbside collections.

At this site, this includes cartons, small electrical equipment, textiles and shoes.
This is a good location for a bring site as the pavement is wide to accommodate the containers. It is also on a popular junction and route, making it easy for residents to dispose of their recyclable waste.
We recognize that having waste containers in particular locations will not please everyone. However, providing these containers, particularly the materials that are not collected in resident’s wheelie bins, is essential to help the city become carbon neutral by 2030.
The location has been reviewed and an alternative location has been identified.
There is space on the pavement, to the other side of the entrance to Ruby’s car park.

We would be grateful for Coldean Residents' Association, Coldean Community Organisation and Coldean Neighbourhood Planning Forum’s views on this location.

This is the only suitable alternative location and so if it is not agreeable, the containers will have to stay where they are to provide a much-needed recycling point.

If the organisations are agreeable, then we can arrange for the containers to be moved.
